The ancient land of Bodmin Moor is crisscrossed with Cornish hedges. From prehistoric times up to the modern day, Cornish hedgers have worked with the stones that came to hand, giving a glimpse in to the exciting geology that lies beneath!

This walk will venture across the area around Minions in the southeast corner of Bodmin Moor. Whilst wandering we will dig deeper below the surface for an insight into Cornwall’s turbulent geological history. Learn how the last 400 million years has shaped the stunning landscape we see today, influenced industries through time, and, of course, provided us with these fantastic building stones.

Dr Sam Hughes is a freelance geologist (Cornwall Geologist) with 15 years’ experience as a lecturer at Camborne School of Mines, University of Exeter.

This fascinating and engaging guided walk will last approximately 3-4 hours and is 3-4 km long over moorland terrain. Pleas ensure you wear suitable footwear (e.g. walking boots), bring waterproofs, and enough fluids and sustenance for the walk.

Free parking is available at the Cheesewring and Hurlers car parks. The walk will commence from the Cheesewring car park at 11 am (grid ref.: SX 262 713).
